Synopsis

Count Almaviva comes to Seville to see Rosina, the woman he loves. Each day he sings her a serenade in front of the balcony. Rosina is an orphan, her guardian Dr. Bartolo hopes to marry her one day because she will inherit richly. Almaviva hires Figaro to help him outwit Bartolo. Almaviva calls himself Lindoro and Rosina enthusiastically writes him a love letter. The music teacher Basilio warns Dr. Bartolo that Lindoro is in reality Count Almaviva. So Almaviva muss disguise to talk to Rosina. Almaviva dresses himself as a soldier in quest of quarter, but this fails miserably with a huge hullabaloo.

In a second attempt Almaviva pretends to be a music teacher. Bartolo lets him in and during the “lessons”, which Bartolo observes with closely, the right music teacher Don Basilio arrives and Almaviva succeeds with some money to silence Don Basilio. In an inattentive minute of Bartolo, Figaro can steal the key to the balcony and Almaviva can reveal his identity to Rosina and they decide to marry that night. But despite Figaro’s precautions, Bartolo could hear the conversation. When the music teacher is gone, Bartolo tells Rosina an invented story about the count’s infidelity. He leaves to get police and tells Basilio to get the notary to arrange a quick wedding. After a series of mix-ups and, of course, a huge hullabaloo, the notary marries Rosina to Almaviva, who had entered by the balcony. Bartolo’s disappointment quickly passes when Almaviva leaves him the dowry of Rosina.
