Bergen and Edvard Grieg
Edvard Grieg was a down-to-earth person and he set musical monuments to his country with “Peer Gynt”, the “Holberg Suite” or the “Nors dansk”. Grieg was friends with many of the greats of music such as Tchaikovsky or Brahms and maintained an extensive correspondence. After many travels and stays in Copenhagen and Leipzig, he settled down in his hometown Bergen.
Grieg Museum Troldhaugen
Grieg lived in this house, built in 1885, for 22 years and composed many of his most famous works there in the garden cottage. It is beautifully situated by Lake Nordåsvannet and is still furnished as it was in 1907, the year of Grieg’s death.
In a rock face by the lake is also his grave, which he shares with his wife Nina.
Chamber concerts are held here regularly in the newly built hall.
