Schmaltztenor

A representative of his profession who sings catchy, sentimental pieces and sings them with greasy elegance and/or in a languishing manner. Used especially in the German-speaking world for singers who (out of business acumen) have made their way from the serious to the light genre. Suspected singers in particular were Richard Tauber, Beniamino Gigli and Joseph Schmidt.
